01 / Start with the site
A good idea has to fit its place.
Location, access, utilities and how someone wants to live belong in the conversation before a building system is chosen.

Alternative construction + attainable housing
Kismet explores a different approach to homebuilding: panelized construction, thoughtfully chosen materials and homes designed around the people who will live in them.
Start a conversationThe purpose
Kismet is the building and development initiative within Rebecca Hidalgo's broader housing work. The focus is attainable housing: exploring how a home's design, materials and assembly can work together without losing sight of the people, place and budget behind it.
What alternative construction means here
Kismet's material focus includes magnesium oxide (MgO) structural insulated panels and a kit-of-parts approach: planning components together rather than treating every decision as a separate job-site problem.
The right assembly depends on the site, engineering, local approvals and the specific products selected. Performance, cost and timing must be evaluated for each project.

Location, access, utilities and how someone wants to live belong in the conversation before a building system is chosen.
02 / Think in components
Panelized construction and coordinated components are central to the approach Kismet is exploring, alongside the practical work of installation and local review.
03 / Keep the whole home in view
The questions are concrete: what does the household need, what does the full project involve, and which choices make sense over the life of the home?
Rebecca's perspective
Rebecca brings a background in real estate, new-home sales and builder relationships to this work. Kismet connects that experience with her interest in expanding the ways people can find a home within reach.

Hear the conversationLet's talk about the possibility
A site, a useful building system or a potential collaboration is a good place to start. Choose the conversation that fits.
Share the location, whether you have a site, and what you are hoping to explore.
Introduce your work and the role you could bring to a future project.
Send the system overview, documentation and where it is available.
